ROAD MINISTER DIRECTS STOPPAGE ON ROAD TOLL COLLECTION STARTING FROM THURSDAY.

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, has directed the cessation of collection of tolls on public roads and bridges effective Thursday, November 18.

A press release issued on Wednesday, November 17, a few hours after the announcement by the Minister of Finance, said the directive will take effect from 12:00am Thursday.

Consequently, personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service will be at tollbooths across the country to provide security for a smooth enforcement of this directive.

“Motorists are kindly advised to approach the locations with caution and observe all safety measures that will be put in place,” the press release said.

The cessation in toll collection on roads and bridges was announced by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as he read the 2022 budget statement in Parliament.

He had announced that the decision will take effect immediately after the approval of the budget.

Personnel who manned the tollbooths and those involved in collection are going to be reassigned.
